Updated: Jan 20, 2021

Have fun learning about blood and what blood is made out of. This sensory bin provides a unique and hands-on sensory experience that children can explore for many hours while further enriching your child's understanding of how blood works and why blood is important to our bodies. Add interesting items like funnels, scoopers, and beads to create an unforgettable STEAM experience!

Focus:

  • Human body science

  • Understanding components of blood

Materials Needed:

  • Large plastic sensory tub

  • Red water beads

  • Ping pong balls or white beads

  • Water

  • Scoopers or spoons

  • Funnel

  • Toy organs and organ name cards (optional)

Directions:

1. Put red water beads (red blood cells) and water into the plastic tub. Wait 6-8 hours for the beads to fully absorb the water.

2. Put the ping pong balls (white blood cells) into the tub of “blood”.

Add toy organs, a funnel, and a scooper into the bin.

3. Allow your child to explore the “blood” using the funnel and scooper. Then, discuss the different components of blood.

4. Have your child match the organs to the correct name card. You can discuss how blood is very important because it allows our organs to function properly.
