Farmers Market Pretend Play

Writer: Dream-I EducationDream-I Education

Bring the Farmers Market to your very own backyard! This activity is perfect for teaching children about country life. Creating a miniature farmers market will help them understand how we get food on our table and answers questions such as:

  • Where does food come from?

  • How does food from the farm get to our table?

Materials Needed:

  1. Baskets & crates

  2. Tables & carts

  3. Signage

  4. Produce

  5. Flowers

  6. Table cloths

We had help from our families to fill up the market with real, fresh produce. If you're doing this at home, we recommend that you scale down everything to a manageable size.

Signage

Produce Section

Bread and Dairy Section

Flower Market

Fish & Egg Section

Add price tags and ask your child to make a shopping list. Pretend to go shopping for fresh produce and talk about where each one came from.

Have fun shopping!
