Magical Starry Night Art Activity for Preschoolers

Create your own magical starry night while learning about Van Gogh and the stars in the sky.

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and imagined painting your very own starry masterpiece? Vincent van Gogh's painting "Starry Night" is like a dreamy night sky full of swirling colors and shining stars. Let's dive into an adventure where you can make your own starry night artwork while getting inspired by van Gogh's amazing painting! After reading Katie and the Starry Night by James Mayhew, our preschoolers created their own starry night painting.

Getting Ready to Paint:

Before you start, gather your art supplies. You'll need colorful paints, crayons, markers, paper, and some cool tools to add special textures. Find things around your house like cotton swabs, toothbrushes, sponges, etc.

Texture Adventures:

"Starry Night" is all about swirls and textures! Try using a sponge to make the paint look bumpy, or gently press on your paper to create interesting textures. You can even use your fingers to add fun touches.

Awesome Art Materials:

Use your imagination and mix different art materials. Try painting with your crayons on top of your paint, or use markers to make bright stars. Mixing different things will make your artwork look super cool!

Picking Starry Colors:

"Starry Night" has amazing colors like deep blues, bright yellows, and rich blues. Pick your favorite colors to paint your night sky. Mixing colors together can make your painting look magical!

Shining Starry Stars:

Stars are like twinkling gems in the night sky. Use a tiny brush or even your fingertip to add little dots of white and yellow paint for stars. Make them big or small, and have fun placing them in your painting.

Add Your Magical Touch:

Just like an artist, you can add your own special touches! Maybe you want to draw a moon, a house, or even a friendly animal in your starry night. Let your imagination run wild!

Blending and Mixing:

To make your artwork look awesome, try blending your colors together. Mix your paints gently to create amazing patterns and make your night sky come alive.

Finishing with a Flourish:

Step back and look at your art. Do you want to add any final touches or details? Remember, your art is a masterpiece, and your imagination is the key!

Creating your very own starry night artwork is like going on a magical journey. By trying out different textures, colors, and materials, you can make a painting that's as unique as you are. Let your imagination light up the night sky and have a blast painting your very own starry masterpiece!
